Advocacy stands as one of World Vision’s key pillars alongside the humanitarian relief and long-term development programs. With partnering communities, national governments, international organizations, we strive for advocacy efforts in elevating the voices of the vulnerable who are facing challenges constantly. Our efforts have had some rewarding achievements where we are working to influence government policies in bettering children’s lives and creating funding pools. We acknowledge that advocacy and policy change is a slow and long term process, but we continue to aspire for success.
World Vision’s has contributed highly in advocacy work previously. One such proposition from World Vision was the Refugee Education Council which was launched in February 2021. The objective behind this policy was to ensure governments international development priorities would be informed by the voices of young people. Upon the approval, World Vision was asked to formally host the council with $100,000 grant from Global Affairs. The Government of Canada has voiced the intention to renew the Refugee Education Council by March 2022, following our proof of concept. The No Child For Sale campaign has marked its ten year anniversary with the focus on ending the worst forms of child labour. World Vision has become a thought leader on the issue of child labour. This campaign has given Canadians meaningful opportunities to bring about systemic changes.
Other World Vision advocacy works include: The Canadian parliament study conducted on the efforts of COVID-19 on vulnerable children worldwide; securing COVID-19 response funding through partnerships with other NGOs; creating the first anti-racism framework for Canada’s international corporate sector; and lastly, our President Michael Messenger was elected to the high-level steering group of Education Cannot Wait.
Invest in stronger communities
When you give where most needed, you’ll help provide things like healthcare, safety, food, clean water and more to vulnerable children and families around the world. It’s a powerful way to help fight poverty and hunger, and give hope to those in need.
